Dreadnought's or Sentinel's armor, head to toe. Groups of 4, no problem, more than that you'll probably die, just be sure to take one of them with you. At 300 XP a pop, DP goes away fast.
A 1-handed pulling weapon (wand or spear) is crucial, because you want to be hitting from range until one of the Hydras gets in your face. Hitting them a) gives you health and b) gives you adrenaline. Ideally you want Flail charged up by the time they get in close, because 33% IAS = 33% faster health gain. Constantly attacking is critical to your survival. After Flail, the next skill you want up is Defy, to lessen the damage you take. It's not that great an elite, but there aren't many +armor adrenaline skills, and I don't have enough points to put in Tactics to make Watch Yourself useful (thanks for the nerf, Anet!).
Keep Flail and Defy up (easy with a Furious weapon), and use the sword attacks as liberally as you can. Sun/Moon is a double hit which means double health. Alternately you can use a Vamp Sword and get 15 health per attack instead of 12.
Alternately you can use Essence Bond and Balth's Spirit as your maintained and Shield of Regeneration as your elite with all yer secondary points in Protection, but I prefer passive healing over active, which is why I like LV.
This isn't the fastest way to kill, but I don't farm for money anymore, I farm to pass the time when nothing else is going on.
